I am a fourth year student at Thompson Rivers University with a philosophy major and history minor. I have always had an interest in education, which has lead me to take full-time studies in university since I graduated high school, and it has lead me to my prospective career choice of teaching. I took my fist university history class in my second year, and was fascinated by it to a much greater extent than I expected. This lead me to enroll in many more history classes and decide to pursue a history minor. Since I have been taking history classes, I have mostly focused on Canadian history. My family on both sides is Canadian for a number of generations, so it is possible that this is one major reason why I find Canadian history so interesting. Canada is such a young country, and yet it has such a rich and diverse history that I find fascinating to research and discover. I have a passion for feminism, and women’s history as well, so Canadian women’s history is my main focus of study, which is what brought me to the topic for my research project. As a Canadian woman, I feel strongly about the Canadian women of the past who have fought hard for the rights and privileges I have today, and by sharing pieces of their stories I am hoping to share my appreciation for them.
